Algeria to produce first smartphone


Algerian electronics company Condor will launch the first home-produced smartphone in 2014.

300 000 handsets a year will be produced in the Bordj Bou Arreridj  industrial zone. Managing director Abdelmalek Benhamadi, has been trying to get the go-ahead for this venture for some time and has been looking for a reliable partner. He has now obtained the greeen light from the Ministry of the Interior.  Twenty-odd Condor employées are to receive training from one of the Chinese sub-contractors.

In 2012 Condor achieved turnover of Dinars 31 billion excluding taxes (approximately US$385m).
