A joint initiative between the Gambia and the United Nations will help women farmers reclaim degraded or unproductive land.
In the Gambia, fertile agricultural terrain is often the preserve of men, with women left to work on land with a lower yield of crops. However, things could be about to change, after the launch of a government project supported by the UN’s International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
The new scheme will see technology used to reclaim swamps and degraded land, making them more suitable for productive agricultural growth.
